OOM
Umbrageous

Main Entry: leafy
Part of Speech: adjective
Definition: green

Her father was originally attracted to California for the weather. Days were sunny, except when it rained, and often still, the rain was pleasant.

Main Entry: envious
Part of Speech: adjective
Definition: jealous

She looks outside, watching a young woman talk on her cell. She's laughing, for some reason. Good for her, Chloe should be thinking. She could easily take the high road, the 'we survived, we persevered, we're heroes, we beat the terrorists!' track, but God it's hard.

Main Entry: hurt
Part of Speech: adjective
Definition: injured

She looks at her wrist, rotating it around slowly. No bruising. No major injuries. She'll be fine. Fuck. She'll be surprised if half of the new hires show up for their next shift, bruising or not.

Main Entry: obscure
Part of Speech: adjective 2
Definition: cloudy

She wasn't able to talk to the others much after, or she was, and just didn't feel like it. It doesn't matter now, she isn't at work anymore. She knows, though, that she owes them an explanation, if she goes through with her plan.

Main Entry: sensitive
Part of Speech: adjective 1
Definition: impressionable

She shouldn't have to handle this kind of crap, right? Her sister doesn't think so. Even Morris told her he supports her, no matter which decision she makes. She looks over to the bed where he still sleeps- he had grabbed her and steered her home almost immediately after she was given a clean bill of health.

Main Entry: shady
Part of Speech: adjective 1
Definition: dark

The girl with the cell phone goes running for cover when the heavy drops finally fall. Even when the storm clouds come, in California, it's always pleasant.

Maybe now things will go a bit smoother. "Jack, it's Bill. We need you back here as soon as possible." It doesn't matter who said it. It could have been Ryan, Michelle, any number of agents in charge of CTU. For now, it's Bill. Next month, it could very well be her.

Jack came, of course. He always comes back. Like turtles, whales, fish.

Lord I must be dreamin'
What else could this be
Everybody's screamin'
Runnin' for the sea

Chloe O'Brian's brain stopped momentarily to process the bomb. There are too many things to process now, there are casualties, injuries, damage totalling in the billions. In order to properly take control of the damage, (At least Chase, Kim, Angela- they're all safe.) THINK LOGICALLY. If you don't keep your head screwed on straight, this will happen AGAIN.

Clickclickclickclick.

Breathing might be a smart idea.

Get your head out of your ass, Chloe. You aren't like this. You're in control. At least, you should be.

No one needs to be called; no one she cares about lives (Kim's got the day off where is she now and is Angela with her?) in Valencia.

Obviously the location was wrong. Sometimes (Jack Bauer's status) that happens though.

Call it callousness, but she can't just sit and cry.

At least they died quickly. That should be a comfort, shouldn't it?

CTU: LA.

Chicago, Boston, Houston. Now Las Vegas. Of course the alert level was at its highest, but what did that matter? They could pretend they were going to stop every attack, or they could give up, go home and wait to die.

The scene around them was orderly chaos. TVs were tuned into Fox News and just about everyone knew they had something to do. Of course there were the new hires that had minor melt-downs, but mostly, everything was going smoothly.

On the surface.

Sometimes, when she sits quietly, she can hear her grandmother singing.
Farther along we'll know more about it
It's harder, here, in the city where it's noisy.
Farther along we'll understand why
But she listens all the same.
Cheer up my brother live in the sunshine
Her grandmother used to sing to her whenever she was hurting.
We'll understand it all by and by
So she listens for the sound of her grandmother's voice,
Tempted and tried will oft make you wonder
Singing to calm her,
Why it should be thus all the day long
Singing to pull the pain away.
While there are others living about us
Sometimes, if she's lucky, she can remember her grandmother's face.
Never molested though in the wrong
But she's been gone for a very long time.
When death has found and taken our loved ones
It's not so easy anymore to picture her.
Leaving our home so lonely and dreary
Grandma Beatrice died when she was eight.
Then do we wonder why others prosper
It's hard to picture it,
Living so wicked year after year
But Chloe remembers she smiled.

People often mistake concentration for annoyance when it comes to Chloe and her general demeanor. At the moment, she's both.

This isn't going right, she can just feel it.

They've lost Jack Bauer and it's all her fault.

"Chloe, do me a favor and stop trying to run my life?" The 'fashionably disheveled' (as his new girlfriend calls it,) young man sitting across from Chloe O'Brian twiddles with the coffee stir nervously. A cane lays across another chair, a jacket thrown on top.

"You're an idiot if you think I'm going to put up with your crap. I have enough to deal with."

"Edgar?"

"Are you kidding me??!?!" Chloe snorts at him and folds her arms across her chest. "I don't date subordinates." Her eyes flare at her companion and her lips draw a thin line.

"Alright, alright! Hey, listen, all I'm saying is what you're saying! You have a life, you have responsibilites, you don't need to go around worrying about me and my problems." Laughing, Andrew Paige flicks his head so a bit of stray hair moves out of his eyes and rubs the sides of his drink cup.

"Chloe." He smiles and rests a hand on hers. "Everything's going to be alright. I'm seeing someone about it."

Chloe's lips purse and she looks away.

"Chloe? I.. need help."

"Where are you?"

"Hospital."

"I'll be right there."

~~~~~*~~~~~
It's 3 am. Chloe O'Brian fumbles to find her key in her purse.
"Damn it." Finding the key finally, she clicks the lock open and enters.
[ooc: This is just before her death, obviously. XD]
Chloe is in her room, playing with the sodering iron. A small burn is growing on her left thumb. A piece of metal lays near by with a bit of flesh from her foot welded to it.
What's...
She breathes in sharp and takes the sodering iron and the metal to her dresser and places them under some clothes in the top drawer. She makes the bed. She had forgotten to make the bed, why had..
She shakes herself and her neck cracks. Paper.
Rubbing her sore neck and not knowing entirely what is going on, she... find a pencil.
She jots down some things hurriedly. Scratches. Not underst- She bangs her hands on the table, frustrated and scared. The skin breaks.
The note is bare, simple. find please no control. Woman. Like him____
She stabs herself with her pencil and blood trickles onto the paper. Get out.
She leaves to meet Mesaana.
It was a sunny but nicely breezy June day in 1980 and Mrs. Harold O'Brian couldn't be happier. Finally, after ten years of trying, she and her husband were about to have a baby! A little girl, to be called Chloe April O'Brian. She would grow up with her father's beautiful blonde hair and her mother's deep blue eyes. She'd bring joy and happiness to everyone around her, and life would be right. Mrs. Harold O'Brian knew this in her heart. So when Chloe was finally born 32 hours later on the 22nd, Mrs. Harold O'Brian put away her tears of pain and replaced them with tears of JOY.
Chloe grew up,... some would say spoiled, with all the things a child could want. Presents just because and foods like lollipops and pretzels. Chloe liked the lollies best. Her father and mother, Daddy and Mama, loved her very much. But Daddy and Mama wondered sometimes about Chloe.
"She's so sad, sitting up there all alone." Her mother would say.
Her father's brow would furrow and he would sigh. "Well, she's a smart girl, I'm sure she understands that we can't have another child."
What her parents didn't know is that Chloe heard them when they'd talk about her. And it would make her sad. So early on in her life, she learned how to be funny and clever and talented and CHEERY enough for two children. Daddy liked it when Chloe was clever. Mama liked cheery most of all.
Sometimes, when Chloe came home with a new friend, and the new friend was not happy, Chloe and her mother would try to make the new friend feel all better! With cookies and milk and other happy things!
"Turn that frown upside-down! The sun's shining and it's all gonna be alright!" or "Somebody's got a bad case of the Mondays!"
And when Chloe was sad, her mother would hold her tight and finger comb her hair. And sometimes, when Chloe was happy, her father would tickle her to make her giggle.
"I think somebody has a case of the silly-willys!"
And when Chloe grew up, she was still funny and clever and talented and CHEERY. She loved all the people that she met in school, and then at work, she got to meet even MORE new people!
When she was 19, she married her bestest best friend Andrew. He is nice and talented and clever and just as cheerful as Chloe, and they want very much to have a little family so her Mama, who is very lonely now that Daddy's gone, can be happy with grandbabies!
A few years ago, Andrew got a gig as Grocer #7 on a tv show, so Chloe went to go watch. A man who obviously wasn't paying any attention to what he was doing handed her his cell phone. When it rang, she answered it. The man was busy, so she took a message. Apparently, she can take very good messages, because a few weeks later she was working as a receptionist at Jack Bauer's company. She loves working there a lot, because she meets all sorts of new and interesting people. She sometimes tells people that Andrew claims "You're more than a receptionist, Chlo. You're their PR. You're the first person any new clients see. You're the most important person there." And of course, if anyone claims this or anything else positive about Chloe, she'll blush beet red.
After eating and having a rather intriguing conversation with Spike and a less.. intriguing conversation with Adam, Chloe heads back upstairs to play the guessing game of "What will Bar let me do/say/wear tonight?"
She's just trying to get me to try new things.
Chloe snorts and rolls her eyes.
"I wish she'd just let me pick and choose what I want to do. It's so much easier on my psyche."
But I know socializing gives my confidence a boost. Just look what Adam admitted.
Chloe O'Brian, Miss I Never Smile Unless I'm Admitted to Be Superior, nearly smiles. But she shakes her head and frowns.
"I'm not going to the wedding."
Don't be pissy. I'm going to the wedding!
"No. Tony hates me and Michelle only invited me because.."
Why did Michelle invite her? They were never particularily close. There were a few times that Michelle had called on Chloe to know about and do highly classified, intimate things, but that was always business. They weren't.. friends. Tony hadn't wanted Chloe to know about Jack faking his own death; it had been Michelle who had insisted she be involved.
Chloe opens the doors of her closet fully expecting to find a dress of some sort and lo and behold, there is, in fact, a dress.
Chloe snorts and pulls it out.
I hate weddings.
Milli-timed to after this. White text is from the song Voices by Dream Theater, thanks to Rance for the lyrics.
Chloe sits up in her room, reading a book on curses. She tosses over on her side, then over on her back again.
I can't believe this. I can't get comfortable. Why can't I get comfortable?
'So speak, I'm right here'
She used to say to me
not a word, not a word
Judas on the ceiling
the Devil in my bed
I guess Easter's never coming
So I'll just wait inside my head
Like a scream but sort of silent
living off my nightmares
Voices repeating me
'Feeling threatened?
We reflect your hopes and fears.'
Voices discussing me
'Others steal your thoughts
they're not confined
within your mind.'
Thought disorder
Dream control
Now they read my mind on the radio
But where was the Garden of Eden?
I feel elated
I feel depressed
Sex is death, Death is sex
Says it right here on my Crucifix
Like a scream but sort of silent
living off my nightmares
Because I'm pregnant with a demon thing's baby.
She throws the book down to the floor and rolls onto her side. She goes into the bathroom and checks the trash. It's empty. Completely empty. No test, no trash.
Nothing.
But she's still pregnant. The test said so. And she had gotten angry with herself. She had asked for the trash to be emptied. All traces of the test to be erased.
She's carrying the child of the single worst creature that has ever walked the earth.
